#3) Why do I need a Custom Costume and why do they cost so much?

We look to enhance the presence of the competitor by presenting her in such a way that will augment her physical attributes and distinguish her from the other competitors. At first, the cost may appear high, but once you consider the cost of the materials used (we use the finest materials imported from all over the world) which is hand cut and carefully assembled to your exact specifications, the price is actually quite reasonable.

#4) Can I order other things, such as headbands, and do you take credit cards.

Yes!  We are available on the Internet for orders. If you see something you would like, call us at (703)-967 1137 and we will process your order over the phone or see us at a local Feis. Normally, we require cash at a Local Feis but we will take a check or money order for any orders.

The Phone call or "On Site" visit is very important as our prices fluctuate rapidly due to the many different sources and suppliers we use and if we come across a bargain we try to pass along any savings to our customers.

#5) How can I obtain a copy of your designs?

We do not have a catalog available for distribution at this time. Our WEB Site, www.AineDesignsIreland.com , and our presence at local Feis where you can see our complete line of products, receive demonstrations and have your questions answered, serves as our catalog. The WEB site contains Photos and prices for Costumes we have for sale and Photos of previously sold costumes to give you ideas for your own custom costume, as well as places we have been and plan to be. We do have a Designer Kit with samples of the many different cloths and colors that we use, along with a measurement instructions and many pages of embroidery designs.

#6) Can I get my picture or my Dancer's picture on your WEB Site?

Absolutely, send me a copy via E-Mail ( AineDesigns@MSN.COM ) or see us at a local Feis. At the Feis we will take your Photo free of charge and put it on our WEB Site at the next update. We will even send you back a free copy if you send us an E-Mail requesting it (Make sure you give me a name or some way to identify which Photo (s) you would like).

#7) I live overseas, how can I figure out what size conversions to use for your ready to wear dresses?

The International size chart below should give you some idea where you stand.  If you're still unsure, please call, or e-mail us for more specific information concerning your area of the world.

All dresses are shown based on American Size Charts.

#8) What should I be thinking abut when I want to buy?

The Seven Rules of Costume Shopping
As you head out into the world of Costume retailers, be sure to remember these seven rules of Dress shopping:

  1. Demand excellent service
This ain't a cheap dress and you have a right to expect top-notch customer service. Unfortunately, some dress makers have yet to learn this concept. If you believe you're being mistreated, take charge of the situation and go to another maker that values you as a customer.

  2. Plan in advance
Most dance costumes have to be special-ordered, and it can take up to six months to order certain dresses. Then you have to leave time for alterations. A word to the wise: start shopping for a dress nine months to a year before your wedding.

  3. Keep an open mind
It is easy to fall in love with a certain style you see in a magazine or at a show. Yet dresses look much different in real life on real dancers. The best advice is to keep an open mind and look at a wide variety of styles.

  4. Take along only one trusted "shopping partner."
Whether it is your mom or a close friend, it's always helpful to get a second opinion. On the other hand, shopping with an army of well-meaning friends or relatives is usually a mistake.

  5. Do your homework before going shopping
Check with your school or instructor on any dress restrictions. Bring shoes that will be similar in height to what you plan to wear when you dance.

  6. Get it in writing
Make sure all the details of your dress order (and any promises the maker makes about delivery, sizing, etc.) are in writing BEFORE you place your deposit.

  7. Check References
This is a major investment, and as with any such purchase it is wise to do some research before making a final decision.

Taking care of your Dress

1         Dry clean your dress as little as possible as this increases fading.

2         Keep your dress away from hairspray and sunlight.

3         Keep your dress away from jewelry that would serve to snag.

4         Store your dress flat. Do not hang as it could warp your dress.

5         Do not use biological powders on the silk parts of your costume.

6         When storing leave the dress bag 1/4 to 1/3 unzipped as this allows your dress to breath.
